BASKETBALL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Great Neck P.A.L. Basketball Program is designed to be both fun and instructional
for all those involved.
Second and Third Grade sessions are structured in a "clinic" like atmosphere
designed to be more instructional than competitive in nature. Players are taught the
fundamentals of the game as no formal teams are set. Children may join in with their
friends, but are encouraged to play with everyone on a week to week basis. Games are
limited to the last portion of the hour session and Coaches are invited to constructively
teach the children during the course of the scrimmages. There are no set teams in
these grades.
Formal "League" play begins in the Fourth Grade where teams are
structured prior to the season by the Coaches involved in the league.
Player evaluations are conducted as needed to make
balanced teams.
For our Coed Basketball Division Seventh,
Eighth and Ninth graders play Tuesday evenings at North Middle School
in a Pick-up Game Format.
The emphasis in all cases is for equal participation by all registrants with the overall
emphasis on HAVING FUN!
